“It’s just nudity, it’s not even that big a deal,” Rihanna says with a smile and a shrug as she settles in for her layout, the cameras capturing a body that is as beautiful as any mythical siren’s. “It’s the body I see every day in the mirror. I’m just showing it to you all this time.”

But while she plays it coy as the cameras snap away at a lovely, naked Rihanna, the singer knows that this is a lot more than just a standard day at the office for her. She’s never been accused of being shy, but Celebrities Illustrated is no mere video shoot. Once you go naked you can never really ever be dressed again and she recognizes this.

“It’s not like I don’t know I’m hot or that I don’t know that people want my body,” Rihanna told us. “I just don’t want to pretend that me showing you my titties and my ass is going to change the world or something. Private things should stay private. But I’m not embarrassed and I never will apologize for enjoying sex. People make such a big deal about nudity that it’s why we’re so repressed about our sexuality. I wanted this not to just be some stolen photo or some lucky shot a paparazzo got if I was topless on the beach. I want this to be something on my terms. This is part of who I am and I’m glad I have a body people want to see.”

This layout comes at a time for Rihanna when big things are happening. Her name is never far from the lips of the tabloid press and whether its stories about her drinking, the tumultuous and dangerous relationship she’s had with singer Chris Brown or even rumors of lesbianism, Rihanna knows how to stir the pot. That’s not anything she’s about to apologize for either and she’s not about to make excuses or give anyone any reason to think she’s not in charge completely of her own life.

“My choices are my own,” Rihanna says, cutting off the interview before we delve too deeply into anything surrounding Chris Brown. “I take care of myself and everyone should just mind their own lives. I live my life in the public a lot. You don’t have to remind me of that. But that doesn’t give people the right to judge me or think they can tell me how to live. My life is my life. Onto more cheerful subjects that Rihanna is happy to discuss, her movie career might just be about to get started. In the action extravaganza Battleship, which hits theaters all across the country this weekend, Rihanna is a Navy officer with a big gun who’s not afraid to use it to fight off aliens. It’s her movie debut and while she’s done her share of acting before from sketches on Saturday Night Live, it’s a new experience for her. And while she’s now linked to projects like the new Fast and the Furious movie, Rihanna is not about to leave music behind for the bright lights of Hollywood.

Music remains her passion and for her, movies are just a bit of fun. She’s certainly looking to avoid the pratfalls that have bedeviled women like Madonna and Mariah Carey when they’ve tried to conquer movies like they conquered music.

“I don’t know if I’ll act again,” Rihanna says. “This was a lot of fun and I’d definitely do more movies, but they would have to be the right kind of roles. I know I’m not going to be winning an Oscar or anything but I want to do things I enjoy. I liked being in this movie. I liked being a bad ass. But I think you’ll be hearing me before you’re seeing me again…”
